Biomed Recovery and Disposal Ltd

AP and AR Supervisor | February 2025 - March 2025

Passion for the nonprofit world comes from a belief in the power of community. Creating simple systems, programs, and routines that make work easier and bring people together has always been a priority. Small improvements and everyday teamwork often add up to something greater, a smile, a shared success, or a stronger team. Leading BASICS and helping a volunteer project gain national recognition showed how structure, care, and collaboration can transform a local effort into something lasting.

That same mindset of building strong, supportive systems carried into the role of Accounts Payable/Receivable Supervisor at Biomed Recovery and Disposal Ltd. Responsibilities included managing the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable with accuracy, timeliness, and compliance to both internal standards and regulatory requirements. Financial processes were streamlined to allow the team to focus on their core priorities. For instance, automation was introduced into parts of the AP process to reduce manual work and errors, while year-end closing tasks such as reconciliations, ledger checks, and financial reporting were also supported.

As an Accounts Payable/Receivable Supervisor, my key responsibilities included:

  • Administering AP and AR using QuickBooks Online and company invoicing procedures
  • Coordinating with drivers, shipping and receiving, inventory, and other departments on financial transactions
  • Processing, verifying, and recording financial claims and forms
  • Administering payroll in compliance with provincial and federal legislation
  • Collecting customer fees and payments, and managing overdue accounts according to internal procedures
  • Maintaining detailed records of invoices, reports, receipts, and cheques on a shared internal drive
  • Examining and verifying AP/AR accuracy, authorizing routine payments, credits, and transactions
  • Resolving work-related issues and preparing and submitting reports
  • Ensuring smooth operation of financial systems and equipment
  • Maintaining compliance with GAAP

Much like my time at BASICS, this work was about more than numbers, it was about creating a strong financial foundation that helps teams work well together and makes a real difference. I see finance as a tool that supports people, purpose, and meaningful work.
